Family : MEGOPHRYIDAE
Species : Leptobrachella heteropus
Size (snout to vent) :
This specimen approx 2.5 cm

Frogs of the genus Leptobrachella mostly occur in primary forest habitats. Typically they inhabit the forest floor, but they may also be found perching on low twigs and small branches overhanging forest streams at a height of around a metre or so.

The frog shown here illustrates the fairly typical morphology of the genus - a small size, large dark eyes, slender forelimbs, long hindlimbs, fingers and toes mainly unwebbed and a long third toe.

The example shown here was found clinging to the branch of a shrub at the base of a small waterfall at Fraser's Hill, Peninsular Malaysia.

Leptobrachella heteropus occurs in Peninsular Malaysia and southern Thailand.

Figs 1 and 2 : A montane example of Leptobrachella heteropus, from Fraser's Hill, Pahang, Peninsular Malaysia (elevation 1000 metres).

Fig 3 : Typical streamside clutter at Fraser's Hill. Leaf litter, ferns, forest debris and mossy boulders provide abundant hiding and roosting spots for many frog species.
