Photographed at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, Singapore.

Family : GEKKONIDAE
Species : Cnemaspis kendalli
Size (snout to vent) :7 cm
Size (total length) : 14 cm

References : H1, H2

A species of Primary Forests up to 1500 metres, mainly preferring damp cave entrances or rocky outcrops but also tree trunks. It is largely nocturnal, but can be active on dull afternoons.

Geckos of the Cnemaspis genus have round pupils and slender, clawed toes without adhesive pads. Kendall's Rock Gecko has a distinctively grey and brown patterned dorsum and a striped, spiky tail which can be raised and curled over the back.  The tail has whorls of tiny spines, most noticeable at the base.

This species occurs in West Malaysia, Singapore, Borneo and the Natuna Islands (Indonesia).

Close-ups of (Left) the head and eye, showing the round pupil and (Right) the whorls of spines at the base of the tail.
