This species is easily
identified by the two thick vertical bands and single horizontal band,
however the pattern of the Spanner or T-Barb can vary from this norm. In
some areas, for example Tioman Island, there are additional horizontal bars.
Inhabiting clear, forest
streams this omnivorous species will venture into remarkably shallow water
to feed on insects, worms and plant matter. Younger fish will shoal, but
larger adults tend to be more solitary.
The species occurs mainly
in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore.
