Kuhl's Creek Frog

Photographed at Mount Kinabalu HQ (at 1500 metres), Sabah, Malaysian Borneo.

Family : DICROGLOSSIDAE
Species : Limnonectes kuhlii
Size (snout to vent) :
Female 6.7 cm, Male 8.7 cm

References : H3, H4

A species of primary forests, Kuhl's Creek Frog can be found in the narrowest and shallowest of forest streams where its eggs are laid. This frog can survive in a huge range of altitudes from lowland plains up to 2200 metres above sea level.

Its dorsal colouration comprises dark brown streaks and mottles on a light brown background. The frog in this photograph is somewhat lighter in colour than usual.

This is a wide ranging species, from India and China through Thailand to West Malaysia and Borneo to the Indonesian islands of Sumatra, Java and Sulawesi. In Singapore it is absent.
