Pantai Acheh : World’s smallest national park SEBERANG JAYA: Penang may have the smallest national park in the world when the Pantai Acheh forest reserve in Teluk Bahang is gazetted as the Pantai Acheh National Park on July 31.State Agriculture, Fisheries and Entrepreneur Development Committee chairman Datuk Azhar Ibrahim said yesterday that the park would cover about 1,200ha, slightly more than the minimum world standard limit of 1,000ha. In conjunction with this, the state executive council meeting would be held at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Research Centre next to the park on July 31, he told a news conference to announce the Farmers, Livestock Breeders and Fishermen’s Day at the expo site here. “The park might also hold the distinction of being nearest to an urban surrounding.” On a different note, he said the state would not extend the deadline for pig rearers to build waste processing plants. He said the state would help them by giving speedy approval and waiving fees for those who wanted to convert their land to other uses. — Bernama
