Johor earmarks Parit Jawa for eco-tourism

MUAR: The state government is looking into developing the coastal areas off Parit Jawa, near here, into a major eco-tourism centre in northern Johor.

State Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Jimmy Low Boon Hong said the programme would cover upgrading existing infrastructure, including roads and the fishermen’s jetty.

“We have decided to look into impro- ving all facilities needed by this small town, which is a well-known bird sanctuary now.

“With tourists and bird lovers coming from all over the region, we feel there is a need to improve the town’s outlook with better facilities,” he said after a visit to the bird sanctuary yesterday.

Low said besides roads, public toilets and a bird watching tower, the state was also looking into building a concrete jetty for fishermen to berth their trawlers as the old wooden jetty had long collapsed.

He said a detailed study on the project would be carried out soon.

He added that the total cost of the whole project had yet to be determined.
