Dead fish found in river

HUNDREDS of dead fish were found floating along a stretch of a river beside the Pasir Ris Town Park yesterday evening.

A Pasir Ris resident was alerted to the scene by the strong, foul smell coming from the Sungei Tampines.

Mr Bobby Lim, 46, a construction project director said he first spotted the fish just below the bridge spanning Pasir Ris Drive 6.

The sludge-coloured water surrounding the dead fish added to the mystery.

Mr Lim who has been living in the area for more than five years said this is the first time he has seen such pollution in the river.

A Ministry of Environment spokesman said that water samples from the river have been taken for investigation.

'The dead fish appear to be of the same species and arrangements have been made to clear the fish,'' added the spokesman.
