Asian snake identification sought
About three weeks ago I was trekking
in the mountainous region of Western China, the Yunan province to be
specific, near Lijiang, when I came across this snake (see
attached). Our guide warned us away saying it was venomous, but he
didn't know the name of it, at least its translation. Sorry I didn't
get a clearer shot of its head, but it was quite uniform in
appearance. Any help would be much appreciated.

Do you know this snake?
I visited your site and was surprised what wonderful pics and good
information you have. I was recently in Danum Valley/Malaysia and
found a snake, what I couldn't identify. May you know this snake?
Thanks for your help ... with best regards from Germany.

Four-lined Tree Frog
i've seen your website & its good & very informative esp. amphibian
(Anura). I've spotted a mistake on Four-lined Tree Frog (Polypedates
leucomystax). The tadpoles that you shown in websites are supposed
belong to Dark-sided Chorus Frog (Microhyla heymonsi) not P.
leucomystax. Thanks 4 the good job!

Mistake now corrected ! Thanks from Webmaster.

Some Comments
i have seen ur website, its quite good and infomative, but pls have
a check on the info, i think u had misplaced some info, such as the
common tree shrew page is showing info of the "musang", and hopfully
the info can be more detailed in the future as ur website grow, i
will also like to see growth in adding new species and groups that
the website is currently lack of, such as fish, birds and so
on......

Thank you for your website.
We're glad we found it. We were hoping
to find something on Caecilians among the amphibians. Perhaps in the
future.

Pangolin
i've visited ur website searching for
some articles about the illegal trade of manis javanica in order to
complete my assignment.and, i found that there are many related
articles and news about what i'm need..tq so much!but, in my
opinion; u should put photos about damaging in wildlife and
ecosystem, in order to make peoples realize that our ecosystem
(especially flora and fauna) are exploited too much by the fool
peoples..anyway, i'm really enjoy ur website.tq.keep up ur gud work

Mismanagement / coruption in Zoo Negara,
Malaysia
Malaysia's beloved Zoo Negara is
interrible shape. A council was elected last year under at its 42nd
AGM under questionable circumstances. Since then more than 550
animals have died. All Council members are bent on opening eateries
and souvenir shops in the premises. There has been no talk of any
new zoological developmen for at least 2 years. Malaysians should
take a greater interest and call on the gov. to intervene. Can u
imagine vendors and their families becoming members and voting? Can
u imagine that the tram operator was paying about 90K to the zoo
annually on a profit sharin basis. Now, the zoo pays the vendor
about 300K annually for the same service. A new economic policy
perhaps? council member has a zoo contract to dispose garbage.,about
400K a year. Bags supplied by the zoo.Wow!

Striped Kukri Snake - near Grange Rd
Saw what we have now successfully
identifed (thanks to this web site !) a beautiful Striped Kukri
snake at 6pm tonight. It had a bright orange stripe, against black
background. Tiny in size (approx 20cm long) Delight to know that
this harmless creature is still about in urban Singapore.

Snake collecting at boarding school in the
Cameron Highlands
I attended a British Army Boarding
School in the Cameron Highlands, in Malaysia from 1954 - 1956. My
overiding passion, while I was at the school was to collect snakes
and beetles which I kept in a large wooden "soldier box" underneath
my bed. Your website is fascinating. Thanks for all the time and
effort that you have put into it. I had no idea that there was such
a great variety of snakes in South East Asia. I collected non
venomous snakes. One had a yellow belly and a dark green body. It
was about 18" long. We called it a Yellow Belly. Do you know its
correct name. Many thanks, Regards, Hazel

Snake at Changi Beach
Yesterday, Sunday we saw a long (6ft,
two metre) black snake on the shore line. The snake darted into the
vegetation, very quickly. The snake was very fast, it appeared to be
very slim (not large in girth). Any ideas what it could be? A shore
pit viper - although it appears to be twice the normal length. Can
you advise? GMS

well ...
well..your site is ok i guess..but i
think the informaiton on flora and fauna are slightly
little..perhaps you want to add more on how bukit timah reserve came
about? and how has man actually destroyed it? i came about this site
while i was doing some research on bukit timah nature reserve and i
couldn't help noticing your site don't really has that much
information on flora, you concentrate more on fauna.(other sites also
have the same problem)well, the research i'm doin requires more
information on flora than fauna so if you could just improve on that
bit,it'll make this site a much better site than it already is.
And,it'll help a lot too if you put in more elaborate explanations
of certain types of interesting plants, and i noticed you didn't
mention the liana. but,you can improve on this site.so,work on it
guys!

Glad to have experienced Bukit Timah
for one glorious year, my family lived
in Singapore and will have many grand memories for rest of our
lives. Bukit Timah is one of them. No describing the beauty of flora
and trees and wild life in picturesque landscape. Thanks for sharing
with others. For me it was spiritual indeed
